Client Highlight: Halle E.

This week I had the opportunity to sit down with Halle, a young woman who has grown tremendously since beginning therapy with us.

How did you get connected to Driftless Recovery Services?
“I was connected through my primary care doctor because I had gone to a therapist beforehand and it never really worked out. I never really felt connected in a sense or like understood so I asked them specifically for a female provider and Driftless was the closest commute from where I live.”

If you could tell someone one thing about therapy, what would it be?
“It makes you feel less alone. Your brain can make you feel alone and it's hard to explain to people who don't understand that concept. We live in a world full of a billion people but at the same time everyone grows up in a different environment and we all come from different places, so therapy definitely helps you realize that you're not alone and there's people who do understand what you're going through even if they've never been through it, they can listen and help you.”

What have you learned about yourself during your time in services?
“I’ve learned that I'm a lot different than I was coming into therapy. Therapy has helped guide me and helped me to grow up basically. Like going back to my childhood, I couldn’t quite grow up as much in that environment, therapy helped guide me in ways to become an adult and become the person I want to be. It’s definitely opened my mind up and given me more of an outlook on life.” 

What plans/goals do you have for yourself moving forward?
“I definitely have plans to keep improving my mental and physical health. I have a nephew on the way so that makes me a little nervous, but at the same time I’ve learned I still have time to grow up. I’m also hoping to work on balancing work, personal growth, and travel.”

Halle’s message to the readers: 
“I think it goes back to: you're not alone. I know sometimes it can feel odd talking to a stranger about everything that you think is wrong with you but it's not necessarily things that are wrong with you, it's things that you want to improve on. It’s everyone's first time experiencing this lifetime so you can't really be too hard on yourself, you're only equipped with the tools that you have so just keep learning and trying to improve, that’s the best we all can do.”
